Dr Vinod Thomas’ lecture addressed the arrhythmic risk stratification in non-ischaemic DCM (Beyond Ejection Fraction) and concluded the session. Dr Andrew Thornton chaired this well-attended session. • Plenary session 5 covered four lectures with Vinod Thomas as the chair. The lectures explored insights into CD/CRT in the current era (Dr Anders Barasa); indications for atrioventricular (AV) node ablation following CRT (Dr Andrew Thornton); ventricular premature complexes (VPC) – assessing the site of origin, VPC load and the need to intervene (Dr Philasande Mkoko) and the approach to improving survival in AF and HF (Dr Farouk Mamdoo). • Plenary session 6 concluded the academic programme with Prof Nqoba Tsabedze as the chair. The session included a lecture assessing and managing right ventricular function in heart failure by Dr Tsungai Chipamaunga, a dive into assessing and managing functional MR by Dr Jens Hitzeroth, and a detailed look into the management of heart failure in the acute setting, including the EMPULSE study data on the use of empagliflozin in acute HF, delivered by Dr Anders Barasa. An interactive panel discussion with Dr Martin, Dr Anders Barasa and Dr Jens Hitzeroth on training required for cardiologists interested in heart failure to obtain advanced skills in cardiac rhythm management implantation summed up the academic programme. We are overwhelmed by the exceptional feedback received from the delegates who rated the meeting, material and life examples presented by faculty as valuable.
